Health and Fitness Assessments
Everybody has their own unique fitness goals and lifestyles. No two people are the same. In order to make progress, it is first important to have an understanding of our current health and fitness level. The major components of fitness include muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, body composition, flexibility, coordination and balance. These are all areas that can be measured and improved upon in relation to our fitness goals. Other health factors, such as age, exercise and injury history, mental illnesses, and chronic health problems, are also taken into consideration to ensure safety and comfort. Depending on the needs of the individual, assessments can be basic or very intricate, and reassessments should be done to determine the success of the workout program.
This is for you if…
- You don’t know how to begin an exercise routine, or have never started one
- Your goals include fat loss, muscle gain, toning, strength gain, or increased flexibility
- You don’t know your own physical strengths and weaknesses
- You are new to the gym
- You don’t know what to improve on, or what your health and fitness goals should be
When you book an appointment at Body Smart Health & Fitness, we will match you with one of our experts that is best suited for your needs. They will perform a thorough assessment to identify key areas for improvement and design an individualized program based on your current fitness level. They will explain and demonstrate each exercise for you so that you can safely and effectively improve your fitness level. If required, nutritional needs will be addressed as well in order to optimize your health and achieve your goals faster.

Chronic Disease Management
Living a fulfilling and healthy life isn’t impossible for those affected with a chronic disease, which are long-lasting and have the potential to get worse over time. Common conditions include heart, lung and kidney disease, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, stroke, depression, and alzheimers. Working with a team of health professions can give you the tools and skills needed to manage symptoms and enjoy the quality of life you deserve. Exercise, a good diet, and a generally healthy lifestyle are all factors within our control that have been proven to prevent and treat many of these conditions, and getting started is easier with the help of a professional.
This is for you if…
- You have been diagnosed with a physical or psychological chronic health issue
- Medications and other treatments have not been as helpful as you’d like
- Your doctor or other professional has given you limitations on which exercises you can do

Strength and Power Testing
Strength is the ability of our muscles to generate or resist force (such as lifting a dumbbell or holding a plank) while power is the speed at which strength can be applied. Most common gym-goers will never need to test the absolute limits of their bodies, but it can be important for competitive lifters and athletes to measure and track these numbers. An example of a strength test is the one-rep max test, which measures how much weight can be lifted in a single repetition, and is typically used on the squat, bench press or deadlift. An alternative to this is the handgrip dynamometer test. A frequently used method to measure power is the vertical jump test, which can be completed with minimal equipment. Despite the limitations of strength and power testing – for example, they can’t perfectly replicate the exact environment or movements during a sport – they are good as a baseline from which to measure progress.

Sport Rehabilitation
This type of rehabilitation is typically required after an injury or illness has impaired movement performance, whether that’s in the gym, on the dance floor, or in a basketball court. Overuse of a muscle group, or a sudden accident, will result in different types of injuries requiring their own unique rehabilitation protocols. Regardless of the cause, the standard process for recovery begins with resting the area, followed by recovering a good range of motion, regaining strength, and then regaining optimal function.
